As promised, here are a few photos of Lady Slippers submitted from a few people who hike the trails in the woods surrounding Spring Pond in Lynn, Peabody and Salem, Ma. The area of focus these photographs are taken are on lots 440, 460 and 488 Highland Ave, Salem, Ma., because this area has an immediate environmental threat proposed by developments.
While these Pink Lady Slippers are not endangered nor rare flora in Massachusetts, they are however protected by The General Laws of Massachusetts, Chapter 266, Section 116A, Protection of Certain Flowers. This law was written in 1935 and has a low penalty fee, but would have a much higher value today per stem. The point would be to not allow the law to be broken by threatening these precious flora.
These pretty Lady Slippers blossom in May to early June. The photos can be safely posted now without threatening their locations which are recorded.... enjoy!
Thanks to all the friends of Spring Pond.
Peace!
Look into the migratory bird act, all migratory birds are protected by federal law, as well as there nesting sites.
ReplyDeleteVernal pools are protected too...as amphibians in new england are extremely endangered.
