Here are two articles in the Daily Item today. How is this seen as a compromise? There is no solution for 'development' here, and preservation should be put first. Solutions for any of the issues have not and will not be resolved. This project has been in planning for years, and in front of the Salem Planning Board for 6 months with no solution found for any of the issues that continue to surface.
How will the reasons for preservation be heard? I wish the Item would allow us to write an article on the reasons why preservation of this site is important for the environment and saving historic resources. This cause is not political for us ordinary citizens who simply wish to preserve the site. (Click on articles to view)

It is MOSTLY private property. You Have no right to try to preserve private property that DOES NOT BELONG TO YOU. If you want to preserve nature then you will have to buy it. Put up the cash or go away.

It's too late to buy Camp Lion but you should start looking for private wooded acreage that may be developed in the future and start buying before all the other "BIG BOX" stores come to a forest near you.

That is odd, because the Lions stated they wanted to see all the concerns of the residents addressed, and I do not think those concerns have been solved or will ever.
ReplyDeleteDisclosure: My main concern is for the environment and historic resources of the site. And care for the 400 children who will be displaced from a good camp site, and the people who live in the area... and the people who will loose their businesses due to this unfair competition this new project will create.

You are correct. You can sell it, but there are limitations what you can do on it. Zoning laws dictate this, however if I may say, Salem's new zoning laws are questionable while at the same time seem absent on the recent Mass DEP wetlands regulations.

They have done more than any other seller would have done to see that the concerns of the neighbors were addressed. And they WERE ADDRESSED!

ReplyDeleteIt never ceases to amaze me how some people can be so short-sighted and still have the belief that "ownership" implies total control to do anything to the land they own--like they have a divine right and no responsibility to anyone or any living thing that lives on it. It's an archaic and self-centered belief that has justified so many wrongdoings throughout human history. This harsh and cruel belief of total control has lead to exploitation of natural resources, obliteration of landscapes and national historical artifacts, extinction of hundreds of species of animals and plants and even on another level, lead to the displacement, removal, and taking of land of the American Indian.
ReplyDeleteInstead of insulting the preservationists, you should be grateful for their unselfish committment--and join them before all we have in this world for wildlife are crows, rats, pigeons, seagulls and any other creature that can live off our waste and trash.
No listing for them in public records?
ReplyDeleteIt has to be in another name or a LLc/company trust. I own several properties and not too many are in my name. Thats how it goes when its not your primary home in most cases
There is no listing in the public records for Kennedy Development Group or Thomas Kennedy who is the owner of the Group. In fact, if you go to the registry and ask for a deed of 488 Highland Ave, the latest is by ownership of Camp Lion
