Welcome. A moment-to-moment story...

Lowe's in Rochester, NH

Once upon a time, there were the peaceful hills of New Hampshire.

Along came Lowe's, and sliced off a hilltop.

Then, along came the crowding.

Thank you, to a friend for sharing these photos, regarding someone's request to acquire images of Lowe's in NH.  Request:  "If anyone is traveling to New Hampshire--please take a picture of Lowe's in Rochester, NH, Route 16 southbound lane..... They blew the top off a mountain, re-configured Route 16 and it is a disgusting MESS. Unbelievable traffic now and Lowe's rises above all else and half of the remaining mountain is rip-rap stone leading into a mosquitoe-infested detention pond. This is what Highland Ave. will look like. Go take a picture so we can show reality!"  (note:  The Lowe's proposed in Salem will set higher from the road.)

And you claim this was built on a mountain that was blasted down..

You are out of your mind. get a LIFE.

  4. If this was any lower it would be below sea level.

  5. Anon,
I havn't been there, but I believe people are trying to tell us something.

The highway, as we are told was reconfigured. The photo is only from the road, and as we know, roads can go up hills. The on in Salem actually does not.

  6. Are you trying to say that the top picture was how it was before the Lowes was built and the bottom picture is how it is now?

Do you think people are really that dumb?

    It's all "PROPAGANDA"

    ReplyDelete
  7. No.

This is not a before and after shot.

    ReplyDelete
  8. If it's not a before and after then why are you making it look that way? "PROPAGANDA"

  9. It is not a before and after shot from the same location.

The idea is, there was nothing but peaceful green and hills before.

  10. A good money deal is hard to pass up. huh?
There aren't other ways to make money?

  11. Katerina,

It's all smoke and mirrors on your part.

  12. Considering all the impacts, there are no other ways to make money, huh?

    Speak to me.

  13. What's propagandistic about an actual image of a big ugly Lowes that crushed woodlands in NH to illustrate what is being proposed to crush woodlands here? The parallel is pretty straightforward.

  14. Who's making money?

    ReplyDelete
  15. If I was making money I wouldn't be here bugging you.

  16. There was no mention of present or future tense.

    ReplyDelete
  17. OK
So I guess that would only Leave past tense?.

Then maybe I would be here bugging you

    ReplyDelete
  18. The past becomes the present,
and the present is borrowed from the future.

    What gives? with you

  19. What is propaganda is the trumpeting call that this Lowes and Walmart will creat jobs when in fact they will only cannibalize existing jobs from the other employers in the same field. What is propaganda is that this lowes project is "green". what is propaganda is the lies about traffic increases that completely underestimate the new traffic generated.

Katerina, I drive by this lowes on my way north to my Mother's, i wish I did have a picture from before because I know that there was nothing by a hill and some woods there before. Now there is a huge route-1-esque development that has made traffic much worse on that road, and forced them to have to build a new off and on ramp for the highway...which you can guess was paid for by the city taxpayers.

  20. What's propaganda is Camp Lion's mission to protect the environment!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Is Camp Lion not looking at grant opportunities, because there is a higher hidden payout with this project? C'mon, who doesnt think it?

  22. I wish Lowe's was not building in Spring Pond Woods. And I wish Lowe's would stop building on top of hills. do they think they are a religious organization or like god? We do not have as many woods as they do in New Hampshire. the loss is unproportional. I hate camp lion and lowes

  23. hate hate hate
    blah blah blah!

  24. i've heard about this low's. it is distgusting!

  25. To Anon who wrote, "Get a life." I would say to you, "Get a brain."
NH has a lot of protected areas, like National Forests and National Parks and up to now, lots of undeveloped land. Now comes Lowe's, with it's attached Kohl's--I guess that's multi-use--in Rochester, NH. Lowe's has a history of taking virgin lands and building on them rather than recycling previously used areas. They even have made a point of building as close as possible to historic sites. Is this ugliness really what we want? Do we want this company to have total control over our landscapes/environment?
No, it's not a mountain they blew off in Rochester, but a scenic wooded hill it seems--and then created a mass of rising ugliness--and traffic, traffic, traffic. I've sat in the traffic there, just as I've sat in the traffic on Highland Ave. These companies don't care how they inconvenience us--it seems they want a captive consumer. As long as their consumer gets there eventually, I doubt they care if you've sat in traffic, had to negotiate through flooded areas, etc.
Thank you Katerina for showing what the beloved Spring Pond Woods may look like if Kennedy Development prevails.

  39. Here's something you can do to have an understanding. Go knocking on every door and tell them you are from Camp Lion or the Development Group :)

Then come back and tell everyone's reaction. It might take 3 hours to pass half a street. That is how long it takes to hear all the cries. The whole area has something to say. There was only 3 on several streets, noted who did not care.

This should be interesting. Can I follow and watch you?

    ReplyDelete
  40. It might take shorter time actually. i can see the door slamming.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Dont waste your time speaking with Camp Lion. They've already been given the info and still don't care.

    ReplyDelete
  42. You are the craziest 10 people i ever hear of!!!

  43. Anon, again, lets walk around the community together to see how unpopular this gig really is. You can keep your identity anonymous. But just so you see what is on people's minds. Maybe I can grab more signatures. The papers are doing a great job of informing the public.
