Welcome. A moment-to-moment story...

WHO ARE THE LIONS?

Thank you to a friend of a friend, who found this old pamphlet from the Lynn Lions, in their mother's items.  "WHO ARE THE LIONS?" is an introduction to the charitable work of the Lynn Lions Club.

"In 1945, the Lynn Lions Club purchased 90 acres of land in Salem at the Lynn line
for the purpose of establishing camp facilities for area Girl Scout Councils."

"The colors Purple and Gold
To Lions, purple stands for loyalty to country, friends, one's self and the integrity of mind and heart.  It is the traditional color of strength, courage and tireless dedication to a cause.  Gold symbolizes sincerity of purpose, liberality in judgement, purity in life and generosity in mind, heart and purse toward his fellow man."

"As we look at the many successes of our club, we (the Lions) can't help but to rededicate ourselves to continue the work of Lions before us and to invite others to join us in our efforts; remembering always that...."

Many hope the current day Lions remember and respect the efforts and vows of the older day Lions, to continue on with good will and heart in the same mission.  Click to view...

Peace

  1. And there will soon be a new camp next to the new Lowes

  2. Anon,
    Not a complete argument.

Simply, the land in question was purchased for the preservation as a camp ground, which will now become a retail center. When will the loss of this land stop? Are we to begin calling the retailer Camp Lowe's or Camp Super Wal-mart? Will this justify your (who ever you are) cause?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Actually the term "purchased" is incomplete. Did not the Lynn Lions acquire the land from Salem, after the previous owner lost it from unpaid taxes? The original deeds are most interesting.

  4. Keep trashing the Lions lady

  5. You don't have a clue about the lions

    ReplyDelete
  6. Not at all. It is how you perceive the FACTS. I speak highly of the older day Lions.

  7. I think it is time shut this site down.

I hope you have the money to keep the lawyers off your back!

  8. Please enlighten us about the Lions. Apparently, no one has a clue, and the mission of the club is the most enlightening and noble one I have come to know.

  9. You will soon see that 1.3 million lions will stand as 1 and shut your site down.

  10. Anon- This is America, where there is freedom to discuss the truth. It will only show the public 'bad colors' to TRY to shut this site down. Try it, and it will upset the pubic, and bring more media attention. Something I bet you do not want to do.

  11. Bring what on? Would you like to meet for tea next week, just to talk? Seriously speaking.

  12. Everyone in the Lynn area knows that the item is nothing more than a tabloid. You will never get any real news paper to write the crap that the Item does. GOOD LUCK!

  13. I am willing to have a conversation with you, if you are willing to not be anonymous. I promise I will not tell who you are. Promise.

  14. I have not disclosed the name from an important email I have from an opponent... proving certain lies. Although I have made no promise to them to not disclose their name, I am hoping they will have a change of heart. I hope all will be good in the end.

  15. I will tell that I have been associated with the lions for over 50 years and the way you are trying to discredit this organization because you are not getting your way is reprehensible.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Who is really discrediting this respectable old organization?

It is not my fault the recent news of the deal with the retailer has buried the name of the Lions in shame by the community. This has been going long before my awareness to the issue in April. I have spoken to several older members who do not agree with the current deal, and there was some kind of struggle. I am not the one making the deal. I can not save the day.

The Lions can stop this and be an angel in the end to the community. peace.

I am bringing to light the good of the club.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The Lions are not buried in shame, they hold their heads high!
Not everyone will agree with everything. As you stated earlier, this is America, and in America, the majority rules and the majority of the Camp Lions want this and the Majority of the community wants this.

Trying to discredit this organization in the long run will hurt you more.

    ReplyDelete
  18. One question. Which community are you referring to?

I invite you to walk with me and knock on every neighborhood door around Spring Pond and listen to the cries. Peabody, Lynn and maybe Salem residents do not want this. I'm just trying to be helpful, so you can see for yourself. I wish you good luck.

  19. You are not helping anyone Except yourself and the anti business Walsh family

    ReplyDelete
  20. I do not have much to gain or loose either way. Actually, I have lost a lot of time trying to save the entire area, and I don't know why I am drawn to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Why don't you just let it be?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Weather you want to believe this or not, Not one Penny of the proceeds are going to any of the individual Lions. All the proceeds will be going to the betterment of the youth of the community.
The Members have nothing to gain personally from this deal.
The only gain for Camp Lion is the ability to continue to do what they do best.
"HELP OUR YOUTH OF OUR COMMUNITY"

  23. Why is Camp Fire loosing their facilities, and have to raise over a million to rebuild? Will the money go to building new facilities for the camp? The kids currently love these woods. They have scavenger hunts through them, study the wildlife and nature. The kids have written letters to Lowe's to not take over the land. The kids from St. Pius who started the letter are Camp Fire kids. Please help the youth and support the preservation of this land.

  24. One last comment

I believe that the drive that you have to save this land is the same drive that the members of Camp Lion have to better the youth.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not Camp Fire's youth. This will not better their camp.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Just as you have said that you promise not to tell who I am, I promise that Camp Lion WILL take good care of Camp Fire as they have done for roughly 50 years.

    ReplyDelete
  27. We know that Camp Lion has allowed Camp Fire to basically use the facilities for free. I can see this on the tax documents. But it must be a reason why they are afraid to speak up.

Its twisted to teach a child to love and protect nature, and then to have them witness the same organization lead to destroy it. Makes no sense.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Are you not worried about the psychological effect this might have on the children?

    ReplyDelete
  29. There is nothing to speak up about...Sorry!

  32. Camp Fire's website wrote she retired. They even had farewell page for her , where anyone could have wished her well. Doubt they fired her.

    ReplyDelete
  33. She did a lot of good. They are not going to belittle publicly because they have different beliefs. They are also good people whom run a great program.

  34. Funny how within a week of the letter she was gone.hmmmmm

  37. Yes- Totally peculiar how she was soon gone, and so loved by Camp Fire... makes me wonder things too. She made a sacrifice I wish others would too.

  38. The Lions need to stop for the betterment of the whole community. Please listen here.

  39. Anonymous-
Being a bully doesn't help the Lions reputation. You should be thanking this website for sharing the clubs mission, and see what more you can do to follow it and be a good person. That is a real Lion. I doubt that you know what being a Lion is all about.

  40. Amen, Cindy.
Whoever this Anon is seems to think that he/she is the only person in Lynn who is community-minded. Geez, that's not so. I'm one of many who donate time to the Lynn Museum, Lynn Woods, and local schools. I also donate time and money to local animal shelters--specifically the one on Highland Ave--the one that the mayor of Salem didn't want to move to its current location because it's a non-profit organization-(see how that didn't happen because of community opposition. She's a real beauty.) I think there are many, many people in Lynn who care about other people and their care also extends to protecting the environment and open space. It is important for the sanitiy of humanity to experience nature. I think this Anon ought to take a walk outside and realize this. One more thing---I drink tea!

    ReplyDelete
  41. You should be ashamed of yourself trashing this organization like this. No one charity will please people all the time. Most do more good than bad. To bash fellow community members, to state not to patronage their businesses is wrong, perhaps even bordering on slander if it can be proven in a court of law. The more shameful thing is you are in a public position in Lynn on the historical committee.
The internet allows for freedom of speech but at the same point you hurt your causes more than you help them. I also now can see how some of these environmental people get out of control and commit domestic terrorists acts. This blog and some of its ideas border on cult like thinking and stopping at no cause. What's next?
    Happy Festivus.

  42. seems the lions changed thier colors to green and black. green for money and black for hottop. what a bunch of s___bags

  43. This website is a personal journal, not affiliated with a commission.

However, being that a Historical Commissioner is a non-paid job, the mission written by the state is to be an advocate, to write and help educate others in realizing the value of historical resources.

There is no shame in trying to preserve a site, and using logical reasons from historical research to justify the points.

    Happy Holidays

  44. Mrs Festivus,
You don't see good, only scum and cash. Ridiculous.

  45. End of the debate now--Katerina wins.
Happy Holidays and good will to all. Go outside and enjoy all the beauty and wonder of nature and pray to whatever Supreme Being you may believe in, that this area can be preserved and not destoyed.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Penny,

    Exactly what does Katerina win?

    ReplyDelete
  47. How is this trashing? Because someone calls out an old mission, its trashing? For real? You guys need to wake up.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Truth cannot be slander.

There is one thing everyone needs to understand. Back in the summer when the former mayor of Lynn Marino wrote a letter to the newspapers in support of the Lowe's and Walmart project, he could not have written it because he has a bad case of alzheimer's disease. If you could only guess who was instrumental in writing this letter.

    ReplyDelete
  49. If the Lions are pissed at people stating their mission, it might be because its close to the truth!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I think its disgusting how camp lion received the land as a gift, and are trying to sell it off piece by piece. I'm sure those who set up the Lions club didn't plan on this happening.
