The Kennedy Development Group of Everett, MA, a group of real estate agents/managers and lawyers, is proposing to develop Lowe's and Super Wal-mart, etc. here in Spring Pond Woods. In 2004, in a different area of Saugus, the Kennedy Development Group bought up neighborhood homes, which eventually forced those remaining to leave. The neighborhood of cottage homes, a church and the old Palace was torn down, to build a Lowe's. This was controversial. There was favor it and heartbreak against the proposed development in Saugus. Many wished to see the Palace gone, but for God's sake Saugonians, if the neighborhood had to be removed with the community church, what good did this do to this community? Saugus has made progress by reducing the hours of operation, even causing the old Palace to want to sell. If there was progress, why loose the neighborhood too? Were the people who loved their homes being heard?
If the development group helps Lowe's take over half of a camp ground in Spring Pond Woods, the environmental and historical loss, and degrading of the neighborhoods.... will be irreplaceable.
Comments from a website that covered the Saugus story:
"Everyone is heartbroken that we're moving.... We have many members who have been here so long, including a 95-year-old member who has lived in this neighborhood since she was 8. But the developer (The Kennedy Development Group) has bought up everything, and it didn't seem like we could stay here anymore." Read more here.
